History

The label was founded in 1992 for the release of the second CD of the band Sturmschäden, in which one of the label´s founders was singing. In the following 15 years Langstrumpf became the home of lots of other bands and artists. The music cannot be limited to a specific genre. Nearly all bands were young german rock and punk bands, except the french Forguette Mi Note, the former group of french singer Julie B. Bonnie. The label was well known because radio presenter John Peel played some of the releases on his show on BFBS Radio.

The T-Shirt Mein Freund ist Sauerländer (My Friend is coming from Sauerland), a promotion for a sampler under the same name, became well known in Germany. John Peel wore the shirt on the cover of a book about his life.[1] All in all it was put as a a symbol for a new local and regional patriotism in germany.[2] An amateur football team in Nigeria used it as a football shirt.

Langstrumpf Records is named after the fictional character Pippi Longstocking, which is called Pippi Langstrumpf in Germany.
